TUESDAY ELECTIONS

over the past couple of years, everyone’s been really supportive of my becoming a teacher.  the biggest show of support I could ever ask for will come on Tuesday:  I’m asking you to take a few minutes to vote:  VOTE NO ON PROPS 74, 75 & 76.

yes, all the ads are confusing and frustrating, but the props are incredibly hurtful to teachers (in addition to police officers and firefighters).

prop 74 would allow for teachers to be fired for up to the first FIVE YEARS (that’s 1,825 days!) — WITHOUT EVEN BEING GIVEN A REASON.  even better, they wouldn’t even be entitled to a hearing.  out of 50 states, how many feel that’s way too long and too vague?  48!  if prop 74 passes, it’s a great way to get every good teacher in CA to leave to teach in another state.

prop 75 ties the unions’ hands behind their backs in their ability to fight attacks from political groups against themselves and the people they serve (basically, YOU), and prop 76 gives the governor nearly unlimited power to cut CA’s education budget (after he already refused to keep his promise to return the $2 billion he "borrowed" from a past education budget and never returned.)

I’m happy to answer any questions you might have about any of this.  personally, I’m voting NO on every proposition except 79 and Measure Y.
